The Gospel and Baltimore, MD

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God;

and that believing ye might have life through his name.

Jesus said unto him,

  • Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
  • This is the first and great commandment.

And the second is like unto it,

  • Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Does rioting follow these commands? rather it demonstrates the following:

  • “Because lawlessness (sin, transgression, and iniquity) is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. Matthew 24:12
  •  Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)
  • For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only he who now restrains will do so until he is taken out of the way.  (2 Thessalonians 2:7)

Herein is the Gospel

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

  • And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
  • Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.

You know that He [Jesus] appeared in order to take away sins; and in Him there is no sin. No one who abides in Him sins; no one who sins has seen Him or knows Him.

 Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;

  • the one who practices sin [lawlessness] is of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning.

The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil. No one who is born of God practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.

1 John 3:2-10

For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous. Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

1 John 3:11-19
